Kevin Doig

Chairman/Workshop Organiser

Kevin is very proud to have been appointed as Chairman of The Young Magicians Club in May 2011 and is very happy to lead this very successful organisation. He started performing magic to his family and friends as a boy at the age of 8 having a valued and well used magic set given to him as a Christmas present. A very few years later, he gave his first performance in front of a paying audience of 200 people in 1971 as one act in an “Olde Tyme Music Hall” variety show. He would have loved there to have been something like The Young Magicians Club available to join in the seventies as he would have been just the right age!

He is a gold star member of The Inner Magic Circle and is a long-serving member of the Stage Crew of The Magic Circle. He is a qualified stage manager but first and foremost he considers he is an actor and director, directing stage shows from thrillers to comedies, from musicals to pantomimes (which he also writes). He has acted in just about all genres of stage show and teaches most aspects of stagecraft both on stage drama and backstage skills.

Magically, Kevin performs stage comedy magic (one act as “Merlin Pratt”) and he is a children’s party entertainer (as “Doctor Magic”). He is known for character-based magic and also has an interest in “Mathemagic” – magic that works by maths principals. As a maths schoolteacher by day, he is very interested in the development of skills in young people so brings these skills to workshops of the Young Magicians Club. He is a lifelong fan of movie pioneers Laurel and Hardy, who have been a great influence on his performance styles, and is the Chairman of the Bexley Magic Society.

Clive Hyams has been a professional magician for over 26 years. He specialises in children's shows but also does his fair share of Close Up magic for private and corporate clients. He has won the Surrey Society's Close Up Competition no less than five times. Clive joined The Magic Circle in 1983 - became M.M.C in 1984 and A.I.M.C. in 1987. Clive ran the showcase sales for The Magic Circle for five and a half years and had been looking for another job that he can fit around his busy professional life.

Clive, our new Secretary, is a family man living in Surrey with his wife Deborah, who he has been married to for almost 27 yrs, and two grown up daughters: Zoë aged 21, who is the manager of a sales office of a national company but is looking to join the Met police later this year, and Bobbie, 18 years, who has just finished 'A' levels and is hoping to go to Huddersfield University this year.
